Love finds a way image

When Tracy*, 60, was referred to us by an Oaklawn caseworker, she was on the verge of something she hadn’t had in years: stability.

For a long time, housing had felt out of reach.

Years earlier, a housing violation involving her son had resulted in the loss of her Section 8 voucher. What followed was devastating, a $1,000 housing debt and years of homelessness. What began as a single setback became a long season of instability.

And yet, Tracy never gave up.

With the steady support of mental health and addiction professionals, she committed herself to healing. She did the hard work. She prepared herself for the opportunity to live independently once again.

There was just one final obstacle: the outstanding housing debt.

When our Vincentian volunteers learned about the situation, they stepped in. Because of generous donors in this community, we were able to clear that remaining balance removing the final barrier between Tracy and a home of her own.

Today, Tracy is moving into her own apartment.

Through our continued partnership with Oaklawn, she will receive ongoing support as she transitions, and she will have access to our pantry and community resources as she settles in.

This is what resurrection looks like in real life.

A barrier removed.
A door opened.
A life restored.
